GIS Team



AGI

All of the GIS staff are employed by Groundwork UK through the South East Regional Team. Although we are based in Groundwork's office in London, we work on projects or provide support for local Trusts across the country.


All staff are members of the industry body the AGI (Association for Geographic Information).


GIS Manager - Paul Hodgson

Paul leads Groundwork's GIS team and developed many of the services and products that we now offer. Paul has an MSc in GISc from Birkbeck College, is a Fellow of the Royal Geographic Society and is working towards a CGeog (GIS). He also has a Certificate in Environmental Management through Groundwork's Management Development Programme.


Paul worked for Groundwork Thames Valley between 1992 and 2003. Experience includes running community consultations, producing feasibility studies, fund-raising, and managing programmes up to £3/4m. Paul was Operations Manager for several years and was involved in developing a social enterprise'West London Floating Classroom'.

 

GIS Officer - David Edmends

David Edmends has been a GIS Officer for Groundwork since January 2005. He was initially employed to research sustainable transport issues in the South East as part of the Home to Hub project funded by SEEDA. His background in GIS began at Manchester Metropolitan University where he studied GIS with North American Studies and continued at Nottingham University where he completed a MSc in GIS.


His current main focus of work centres around the delivery of web based public participation GIS, including interactive web based mapping, and animated 3D models for planning purposes.


GIS Officer - Thomas Puthusserry



Thomas joined the GIS unit in March 2008. He holds an M.Sc (Tech) in Geophysics and worked as a research scientist at the National Geophysical Research Institute, India. Previous experience includes working on a project using GIS to assess groundwater quality and feeding the results back to communities and also researching climate changes. He has published over 15 scientific papers in different international journals.


His role includes assisting the GIS Team in data management, spatial analysis, mapping, monitoring and evaluation services.

 

GIS Assistant - Minesh Naran

 

Minesh has been part of the GIS Team since August 2009. He has a B.Sc (Hons) in GIS from the University of Cape Town, South Africa.

 

Among his duties and responsibilities of collation and management of data from sources such as Ordnance Survey, Office for National Statistics and MAGIC, he also carries out spatial and statistical analysis of data and presents results through standard and interactive maps.

 

Minesh also has a keen interest in the development of Mobile GIS within the team.
